Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have recorded significant operational successes in a series of coordinated security operations across Kaduna State, leading to the recovery of rustled livestock, the arrest of suspected bandits, and the restoration of public order in troubled communities.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations form part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities across the North-West region.
The statement disclosed that on June 20, 2026, troops acted on credible intelligence regarding cattle rustling activities in a community within Kaduna State. Security forces swiftly moved to intercept the criminals and engaged them in a firefight. During the encounter, two suspected bandits were neutralized, while weapons, ammunition, and rustled livestock were recovered. The operation successfully foiled the criminal mission and enabled the recovery of the stolen animals. However, one civilian reportedly lost his life during the incident as a result of the actions of the fleeing bandits.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops conducting a night patrol intercepted two suspected bandits. Preliminary investigations revealed incriminating digital materials on devices recovered from the suspects, allegedly linking them to terrorist and bandit networks operating within the region. The suspects are currently in military custody and are undergoing further investigation.
The momentum continued on June 21, 2026, when troops on a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals. Under sustained pressure from the advancing troops, the suspects fled into nearby bushes. The troops maintained pursuit and subsequently arrested two suspected bandit scouts. Recovered items included motorcycles and communication devices containing materials believed to be connected to criminal activities. Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement.
Meanwhile, troops also responded to a civil disturbance in the Mararraba community of Kaduna State following the mob killing of a woman accused of child trafficking. The situation escalated as an angry crowd attempted to attack public infrastructure and obstruct a major highway.
Security personnel swiftly intervened, dispersing the mob, securing critical government facilities, and restoring normal movement along the affected route. The prompt response prevented further breakdown of law and order and ensured the safety of residents and commuters.
Commending the troops for their professionalism and commitment, the Theatre Commander praised their vigilance, discipline, and operational effectiveness. He noted that the recent achievements demonstrate the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks and deny criminal elements freedom of action across the region.
The commander further assured residents that intelligence-led and offensive operations would continue relentlessly to strengthen security, protect lives and property, and maintain peace across the North-West.
