The author of Democracy and Untold story of June 12, congratulates, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the winner of 2023 presidential election after the Supreme court judgement. He added that the President should do the needful, based on his antecedents in Lagos state, to make Nigeria a great Nation.
Chief Abimbola Aboderin involvement in politics started way back in 1993 with MKO Abiola the acclaimed winner of June 12, he was in the struggle of June 12 with Abiola. He was the right man of Chief Abiola together with Oba Ajibola, MKO lawyer now a traditional ruler in Ibadan. Chief Abimbola Aboderin contested for House of Senate under the Platform of ANPP and APC at different times, won the primary but denied the ticket.
As someone who had seen it all in politics, chief Abimbola Aboderin followed the court proceedings with keen interest of the 2023 presidential election Tribunal up to the Supreme Court. He was nicknamed 'father of Democracy’ in Nigeria after his book ‘Democracy And Untold Story of June 12’ was published in 2021.
Chief Abimbola Aboderin’s strong desire hinged on the fact that President Tinubu hits the ground running in his first year in office to put Nigeria back on track.
'For me, patriotism is what we lack! We have to love this nation. God first, then Nigeria. The security of lies and properties of citizens are very important which must be heavily invest on to stabilise and recovery the economic status of our dear nation, Nigeria. The whole economy needs overhauling including the education sector. If those things are in place, the sky is not the limit but the beginning! Nigerians are very dynamic and wonderful people God created, our leaders must begin to see the future beyond now and invest in the future works that will position and add values to us in future Africa and also in the world. ‘President Tinubu needs to work very hard to make significant difference that will liberate Nigerians.’ I believe President Tinubu is up to a task and he will perform'. State of the Economy
As an economics, Chief Abimbola Aboderin hate wastage. He believe that government at all levels should be able to manage account for any little resources in their hands to move the country forward ?
His words: 'For me I always believe in cut your coat according to your size. Nigeria have resources from Oil and Gas, Solid Minerals, Agriculture, IT and other stuffs. We must minimize our borrowing because of the children in the future. I can say, I am not very happy with the way Nigeria is being run over the years. All these months, they said they spent over ninety per cent (90%) of our revenue on servicing loans. It is that bad? Whether an individual, a company or country you must manage your revenue very well. You must rake in more revenue and borrow less. That was how we were trained. We have been in business for a long time. My father, my late grand father we don't borrow. By the time my father died there was no borrowing and I myself, don't borrow. You have to manage what you have. Right now we have to make our loans to be minimal so that we don’t leave a great burden for our children and unborn in future.
The publisher of The Guru Magazine who has a zero tolerance for corruption hinted that the problem with Nigeria is corruption.
'The major problem with Nigeria is greed and corruption.. American says: 'there is unbelievable corruption in Nigeria’. It is true? In history of mankind, I have never seen a country whereby people steal so much money like Nigeria.
I often say; how long are we going to live on this planet earth that people are stealing the entire money of the nation? Even if you live up to hundred or two hundred years you will still die. Then, why are you embezzling peoples money? When I listen to the television and newspapers, I wondered, why stealing those moneys and what are they going to do with it? Most of it are wasted! We have to stop and give that the beast called corruption in our system a red card. Bring the money back to Nigeria and invest in the system so that we can create jobs for our dynamics and wonderful youths. I believe that we need Agricultural plantations in each states.
Governors should invest money in Agricultural business at commercial level to create more jobs. One can plant Cassava, Maize, Banana, Orange and everything. Each state can choose what they are good in. We will have a lot Agricultural products. I am a farmer too. There are beautiful and arable lands in Nigeria to plant everything. If we can do that, with plantations, we can trade by Agricultural products on the stocks market. Most of the African country's need Nigeria. God really bless us as a nation not only help ourselves but other countries in Africa and world.'
On issue of integrity 'Nigerian Christian Journalist Association decorated chief Abimbola Aboderin with an award of integrity tagged ‘Integrity man of the year’ in 2022 because of his outstanding performance in humanitarianism and philanthropic activities. Chief Abimbola Aboderin averred that everybody had to practice Integrity if you must move Nigeria forward..
His words:'You have to practice integrity. First of all, you need to fear God, the initiator and creator of everything. You should also know that we are just here on this planet earth temporarily, therefore, do things in moderation. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 10:19c that “money answereth everything” but 1 Timothy 6:10 affirmed that ‘the love of money is root of all evil and by craving with it some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains’. We have to make sure that you make good and clean money. Not the money that involves peoples blood or the money that will make other unhappy. You have to stop stealing government money. The stealing is too much, Its affecting our people and our nation’s growth. There is joy in working hard and then making something from your sweat, not from making other unhappy or make the country suffers.
Advice on Japa Syndrome of the Nigerian Youth
Chief Abimbola also counsel Nigerians especially the youths, to stop thinking of ‘Japaing’ because of the situation of the country.
'JAPA’ has always being there. This is a country where government don't care about citizenry welfare in the area of job creation for the youth. No wonder, ‘run away to other countries of the world for greener pasture. Hearing and reading about Nigerians in diaspora on television, radio and newspaper always gives me joy and make me proud of Nigerians across the globe! Some of them are doing well. However, we need to encourage them to come back home.
I studied abroad and also have a son that studied abroad as well. Two of us came back home. Whatever knowledge you are going to acquire over years, come back home and establish. Our land is still fertile to accommodate any of your ideas which will invariable create jobs for many unemployed youth. I can see them! I mean the youth. When I went to Club in Victoria Island, I was astonished to see young people trooping in. I was so happy. They look good and intelligent but there is no job for them. You have to create job for them. There is nowhere like Nigeria. Whether you like or not, go somewhere, you will still come back home. I study in Califonia. ‘the most beautiful state in the world’, Nigeria is equally beautiful, we only need to invest in it to create jobs for people stay.
Brief profile of Chief Abimbola Moyosore Aboderin
Chief Abimbola Moyosore Aboderin was born into the silver spoon family of late Chief Olola Aboderin of Ibadan, Oyo state. It is interesting to note that his father was a strong, powerful and sought-after businessman, playing a major role in Ibadan politics during his time. He was the initiator, founder and financier of the“Ibadan Peoples Party (IPP)” which he used to represent Lagos in the 1952 Parliament. He was a strong foundation member and financier of Action Group; a member of Western House of Assembly and a member of the federal Parliament in 1952.
Chief Abimbola’s father was part of the three-man Federal Parliament delegates who were officially selected to grace ‘The Queen of England’s coronation’ in 1953. He was a pioneer Industrialist and member, The Royal Overseas League in 1962. This genius and the unsung hero was the Punch Nigeria Limited, chairman from 1984 to1987; Founder, Tower Aluminum, Nigeria; Founder and chairman, African Produce Nigeria Limited, Chairman Universal Holdings Ltd and Paper sack Nigeria Limited.
Chief Abimbola’s Career Journey
Chief Aboderin had his primary and secondary education in Nigeria with his O'Levels at International School Ibadan( ISI) and went for his A 'Levels in England, a tripartite course that encompass Economic, History and British constitution. As an ambitious young man, chief Abimbola Aboderin went to England, Califonia for his first degree to study Business Finance and Banking.
Olola Moyosore’s Legacies
Chief Moyosore Aboderin brought the biggest show in the world to Nigeria in 1988 which featured Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, U Roy, Burning spare, Judy Mowart, the lead guitarist of Bob Marley etc. That was why King Sunny Ade christened him as the ‘original promoter.’
‘He started this innovation from Liberia. and also played a spokesman role in his father's company known as ‘Aboderin and Glahie to organise trade fair for Lagos Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. Glahie was a German man, who was the biggest trade organiser in the world as at that time. Probably the first movie in Nigeria called Hostages was shot in his house at GRA Ikeja featuring RMD in 1989.
Awards and Recognitions
Chief has many awards attached to his portfolios, first was in England in 1973 during his A level education in Economics at Redrice Hants School. Second, was in Port Harcourt in1990 by the journos Chambers of Nigeria ‘as the Outstanding young person of Nigeria in Business and economic affairs’.
Before travelling abroad for further studies Chief Abimbola Aboderin made several significant differences in the area of modelling as a stand-out Model which was accolade and sang by many newspapers in 1966. Daily Times,'Sunday Times' declared him the First Exceptional Nigerian Model and was boldly written on the cover page of The Punch newspaper in 1966.
His statement: 'Some of the people who were around my age can remember that. They called it 'Sworn in girls'. I did Advert for Dunlop in the 60s. Before I left Nigeria, I did another advert on 'Tom-Tom' and of course I did a lot of modelling for magazine owed by Punch called 'Happy Home Magazine'. People like Bunmi Fadase who was editor of Punch can remember that as well. I am sure people like publisher of Vanguard Newspaper, Chief Sam Amuka (former Managing Director (MD) of Punch), we used to call him uncle Sam Amuka also know about that'.
Apart from being a brilliant Child during his school days ,Chief Abimbola Aboderin was a skillful guitarist, a singer, and sports master. He was into different sport activities during his schools years, football and jumping, athletic ,even boxing were his favorites games. Mention it, there was no sport he did not participate when he was a student.
He went to England and Califonia and came back to Nigeria in 1979 to see what could do for his country Nigeria. By his own effort chief Abimbola Aboderin was able to raise Funds for Nigeria in 'world Bank and Paris Club' when Chu Okongwu was the minister of Finance in Nigeria, a German friend who was called Rolf Wegner, a business who partake in the loan deal with Chief Olola Abimbola Aboderin.
'The first person that I told that time was late chief of Air staff Ibrahim Alfa. I was a member of Nationalism abroad that was born by people who loved Nigeria. For Instant my father was the first person who formed a political party which he uses to enter Nigeria Parliament in 1952, and Western House and Lagos Parliament in 1952'.
Chief Abimbola Aboderin noted that his father was among the three (3) people officially chosen by the Parliament to represent Nigeria at the Queen installation in 1953. He hinted that Himself and hon. Kazeem Ibrahim from the Northern Nigeria and Oba Adesoji Aderemi represents Nigeria. Oba Adesoji Aderemi was working for my grand-father as secretary, late Chief, Olola Oladipo Aboderin.
The Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, was widely a travel personify. His personal philosophy about life was 'Worship God'. He is a Roman Catholics to the core who belief in one God and who also love God through his humanitarian services, giving to the needy and the poor at all times.
