Six Suspects Arrested as Intelligence-Led Operations Yield Major Security Breakthroughs

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another significant victory in its ongoing war against crime, dismantling multiple criminal networks and arresting six suspects linked to illegal firearms possession, generator theft, vehicle parts theft, and receiving stolen property.
In a series of coordinated intelligence-driven operations carried out across Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and the Ibafo Division arrested six suspects and recovered dangerous weapons, stolen generators, and mobile phones.
The successful operations underscore the growing emphasis on intelligence-led policing by the Ogun State Police Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.
Generator Theft Syndicate Busted
One of the major breakthroughs came through the efforts of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which successfully dismantled a suspected generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and surrounding communities.
Acting on credible intelligence on May 30, 2026, operatives tracked and arrested Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as "Okiki," believed to be a key figure in the criminal network.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Mumuni Amodu, alias "Stone," identified as the alleged receiver of stolen items.
A search conducted at the suspect's premises resulted in the recovery of:
- Four Elepaq generators
- One Sumec Fireman generator
- Nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been stolen
Police investigations also led to the arrest of Abayomi John, alias "Ibafo," a motorcycle rider accused of providing transportation and logistical support to members of the syndicate during criminal operations.
Investigators believe additional members of the gang remain at large, and efforts are ongoing to bring them to justice.
SWAT Operatives Recover Illegal Firearms
In another major operation on June 12, 2026, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit arrested Mr. Adeboye Ojesina, 58, over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and intimidation of residents in Wasimi and neighboring communities.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of:
- One pump-action rifle
- One locally fabricated pistol
- Two live cartridges
- One expended cartridge
Police sources disclosed that the suspect initially denied ownership of the weapons but later claimed he found the pistol within the community and fired a test round to verify its functionality.
He further alleged that the pump-action rifle was handed to him by an unidentified individual currently being sought by investigators.
Security analysts note that the recovery of illegal firearms from communities remains a critical step in preventing violent crimes and ensuring public safety.
Vehicle Parts Theft Network Exposed in Ibafo
On June 13, 2026, detectives attached to the Ibafo Division responded swiftly to a theft complaint from a worksite at Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo.
The investigation led to the arrest of Afisu Awesu, who was allegedly caught attempting to steal a forklift engine component alongside an accomplice who escaped.
Further inquiries revealed that the suspects had previously stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu of Kara, Ibafo.
Police subsequently arrested Aminu as the alleged receiver of the stolen items.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and completely dismantle the network responsible for the theft operations.

The latest arrests and recoveries highlight the effectiveness of intelligence gathering and rapid response strategies being adopted by the Ogun State Police Command.
